Yesterday was spent experimenting with new bamboo and hot stone massage tools. The case has a neat design in that it acts as the warmer too. The front zipper opens to reveal the heating controls.
It’s adjustable for time and temperature and heats everything very well! The stones can easily get too warm, so we found placing them on a warm damp washcloth draped over the back first helps ease the massagee into the heat sensation. Another nice touch is that the stones have ‘nubs’ on them to place between the massager’s fingers for better control while moving them about the body.
The added sensation of warmth to the massage is something new (for us) and… wowzers. It helps tremendously in releasing ‘knotted’ muscles in the back and neck! Using the bamboo as a combination rolling pin and simply sliding it in your palm over muscles and using the nicely rounded ends to dig into the glutes and hamstrings was nice. It takes some getting used to since having an object between your hands and the person you are massaging removes some of the tactile feedback that’s so important to good massage, but all in all, it is a nice ‘extra’ to add to a massage.
On the down side, it is less sensuous and feels less intimate than direct skin on skin touch. Hands and fingers are perfectly designed to provide so many sensations, they really are the best! Throw in feet and elbows and all the best massage tools are built in! But I did like the addition of heat for sure…
